NFEFI Appeals for PhP1-M

The Negros Forests and Ecological Foundation (NFEFI) is urgently appealing for funds to enable it to continue its fight to protect and conserve the environment of Negros.

For 25 years NFEFI and its volunteers have been at the forefront of environmental protection, reforesting hundreds of hectares in Negros and establishing one of the country’s top captive breeding programs of endangered species.

“Unfortunately, with rising costs coupled with the economic downturn which has forced some overseas sponsors to cut back, our funds are now precariously low”, said NFEFI vice president Teddyboy Infante.

Infante stressed the critical need to protect the local environment. “The environment is in great danger. We must all act now before it’s too late.

“Negros is home to many rare and unique species, found nowhere else in the world. We all want our children and grandchildren to be able to enjoy the rich and unique biodiversity of the island, especially with such precious assets as the Visayan Spotted Deer - the rarest and most threatened deer species in the world.”

NFEFI needs at least Php1 million to keep its programs going for the foreseeable future. “We need the help of every Negrense, whether living locally, elsewhere in the country or overseas,” added Infante.
